Who am I?
My desire to start psychotherapy training in the fall of 2010 in Toronto emerged from desire to offer supportive psychotherapy care through an anti-racist and anti-oppression lens. I started by offering my services as low-cost. I developed a part-time practice while continuing my work in the non-profit sector. This combination brought wonderful learning experiences and enhanced how I conducted therapy.
In 2016, I decided to take a risk and move to the Yukon Territory where I remained for 8 years. At this time I also began a Doctor of Ministry Program and started exploring how colonization and decolonization are embedded in Canadian society and how so many inspiring professionals and communities are attempting to question and challenge settler colonial principles and reckon with practical ways to implement decolonial ways of being into their work and their personal lives. This work for me continues today as I near the completion of my dissertation.
I arrived in Ottawa in the fall of 2024. Once again, I find myself on a learning path as I rebuild my life here. Beginning again has brought many joys and challenges. I am blessed to have been given opportunities for relocations and new experiences. I recognize that many people in the world have had to relocate and start over due to external circumstances, some that are quite traumatic. My hope and desire in building a supportive psychotherapy practice is to assist others in their own life transitions and to assist with breaking down financial barriers to doing so.
My academic background includes; Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (2003), Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies (2006), Master’s of Arts in Religious Studies (2013), Diploma in Relational Psychotherapy (2015), and a Doctor of Ministry (to be completed in 2026).
My work experience includes over 20 yrs in the social service field supporting adults with developmental disabilities and adults with acquired brain injury in residential settings, adults with mental health challenges in community setting, and supporting individuals, couples and families within an Indigenous Self-Government.
